Our SHop

Books

We have many rooms filled with high quality used books (and a few new) of all genres.

Don’t see a book you need, or you prefer reading e-books on a mobile device? We participate with Bookshop.org which offers the convenience of online shopping. The Book House receives a percentage of each sale when you purchase from Bookshop.org, and you are also supporting other independent bookstores across the country. Just locate our shop on the website, click “support this shop” and make your purchase.

If you enjoy listening to audiobooks, but still want to support our small business, we partner with the fantastic libro.fm! They also send us a percentage of purchases made when you choose to support our shop on their site or app. You can even sign up for an account using this link: https://libro.fm/referral?rf_code=lfm682144 .

We accept donations of books and very occasionally trade-ins. Your donations make our business possible! We are grateful. We can come to your home to do larger pick-ups if needed. Before bringing donations by, please email us to see if we are taking donations. If you would like us to pick up books from your home, please contact us through our email.

Gifts, Art supplies and stationery

We carry a variety of bookish gifts including puzzles, journals, cards and a large selection of pens and pencils. We have a great selection of cards for all occasions and everything you might need to write a letter. Please let us know if you would like us to carry something that you would like to be able to buy locally.

Room Reservations

We have many cozy nooks throughout the four floors of house which are free to use at any time. We do appreciate a purchase from the cafe if you plan to hang out and use the space for work or reading. Have a group or an event that needs a spot to meet? Please read over the information below.

Groups: If you are part of a group that would like to meet regularly at the shop, there is no set fee for use of the space. We do rely on your business to help make the space available, so we really appreciate it if you can make a contribution for the use of the space at whatever level you can afford. Suggested room rates are listed below. Don’t let cost be a barrier for your group—we want your group to come hang with us!

Events: If your event is open to the public, there is no charge for the room. Let us know if you’d like us to advertise the event on social media. If your event is private (baby shower, adult birthday party, retreat), please see the fees below.

Our Rooms:

The Nest (2nd floor): This is our cozy room upstairs with our art and music books and a large round table that can seat 6 (8 if you don’t mind a little snuggling).

The Roost: (3rd floor) This beautifully curated space with comfortable seating can accommodate 10-12 people. It includes a private bathroom, kitchen access and a large room decorated in vintage style. Perfect for a larger group, wedding or baby shower, or even a group retreat! If needed, “The Round Table” room can be included which is the entire third floor of The Book House!

The Round Table (3rd floor): A room filled with books waiting to be shelved, and a large round table that can seat 8, with private bathroom. This is a great gaming space (our weekly D&D group meets here). If needed, the table can be folded and removed for a large open space that can accommodate 12 folding chairs, 6-8 yoga mats or whatever seating you desire!

Room Rental fees:

The Nest: $25 first hour, $10 for each additional hour

The Roost: $50 first hour, $25 each additional hour

Round Table: $25 first hour, $10 each additional hour

Entire Third Floor (kitchen, middle sitting room, The Roost and The Round Table): $75 first hour, $35 each additional hour

To make reservations, please email us your date, time, and event information. If you’d like pastry and coffee service for your event, please let us know at least one week ahead of time.

Rooms are available during store hours at the rates listed above. If you would like an evening event, we may be able to accommodate, but the fees will be higher as we have to pay an employee to keep the shop open late.

Unfortunately, we have many stairs in our house. These rooms are NOT accessible to those requiring a wheelchair.

Room Rental Policies:

Please reserve as far in advance as possible, but at least one week.

Fees must be paid at least 72 hours in advance for events, or on a monthly basis for recurring group meetings.

Please cancel at least 72 hours before your event. After this time, fees are non-refundable.

If you would like coffee, tea or pastries for your event, please let us know at least a week in advance.

There is no smoking or vaping allowed anywhere on the property.

We do not currently host children’s (under 12) birthday parties.

If you are going to have alcohol at your event, please let us know, and make sure that people drink responsibly. The Book House is not liable for any injuries that occur as a result of trying to navigate stairs (and we have many) while intoxicated.

We ask that you keep hootin’ and hollerin’ to a reasonable minimum as to not disrupt our other guests in the shop.

Please tidy up after yourselves. We can dispose of trash for you, but please place it in the proper receptacles.

If substantial damages occur while your group is on the premises, we will discuss reasonable compensation for any damage.
